Nature is nice

Today my family and I went on a Pic-nic in the Kuring Gai National Park, about 1.5 hours north of the Sydney CBD. I now understand why so many people choose to live in Sydney, or near it. There's some amazing landscapes and if you like the beach, you can live near it too, and still work in the city. Hmm, but maybe it helps to have a bit of cash. But even if you don't live at the beach, you can still visit it, and the National Parks. So, I think I have a new exciting place to explore north of Sydney. It was soooooooooooo blue! And soooooooooooo relaxing. Nature is nice!

Merry Christmas!

Dear wonderful friends and family,

It has indeed been a while between posts. So it's Christmas, well at least Christmas Eve. I'm in Manly as I write, a nice little sea side suburb of Sydney. This is where my family live now, and my sister and her family (husband and baby 1 year old boy) arrived last night from Hong Kong. I'm excited about Christmas especially because I will get to know my nephew who is only one year old, with my mum, dad, uncle, aunt, sister, brother in law and grandma. It's so cute. He has seen me for less than 24 hours, but is already holding my hand and blowing me kisses. Babies don't beat around the bush, that's for sure! They just love you, and you just love them. It's that simple. It's great!

Querida amigos/amigas/familia,

So what has been happening in Canberra (where I normally live)? Well, the cost of rent has gone up in Canberra, so my land lord wants me and my housemates to move out. So, December has been a very busy month, spent working full time, researching the rights of tennants, and finally looking for a new place to live. Oh yes, and I also volunteered to organise the waste management for a music festival that will be in Canberra at the end of February. Let me just say, it's been a busy month and I am VERY happy to be on holidays. When I came home from travelling, I adopted the philosophy "less is more", and told everyone that my mascot was a snail, in order to not rush through life and allow time for relaxing. Unfortunately I have not been very snail-like of late. But the snail will return! Slow is good! This Christmas I also decided to make Christmas presents for my family. My housemates taught me how to dehydrate fruit using their dehydrater, and I also made gingerbread for the first time. And I only spent half an hour buying Christmas presents - a world record for me. Oh, and one of the best Christmas presents I got was during our federal election about 4 weeks ago, when the conservative Prime Minister of Austraila, John Howard, who had been in power for 12 years, was voted out of office! Hooray! I think mother nature is happy too, because since the change of government, it's as if the drought has broken - it really has rained a lot recently!

So, I would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas wherever you are, and a great outlook for the New Year full of openess, love, kindness, fulfillment, music, dance, and lots of laughs!!!!
I am so happy to know you all. Love Clare xoxoxox

Besos y abrazos grandes, Clare xoxox

Goodbye Howard, and good riddence

A weight has lifted...

On Saturday 24th November, Australia held its federal election, and this election the people spoke very clearly that it's time for a change. I for one could not believe it (it was too good to be true) when hearing the election result so early on Saturday night. But indeed it was true. We have a new government. Finally we have a government who is at least going to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. I can't believe it!

A weight has lifted. I feel a sense of hope that was not present under the Howard government.

I have hope.

back home (en mi tierra)

Blog number one:

Welcome to my blog "tea with clare." So, here I am, at last sitting at my desk at home here in Canberra, Australia, listening to one of my favourite bands on my cd player "the waifs". I have missed listening to Australian music while being away, despite thoroughly enjoying the music of South America. The music of your own country gives you a special feeling of home and your identity - I can't really say more than that. My general idea for this blog is to maintain the habit of writing and reflecting on the world around me, as was the case while travelling, but also to share these observations with the special people in my lives. oh yes, I'm trying to practice my spanish too (it's really really bad so don't try to learn from me if you're a beginner). SOme of you I have known for a long time, and some only briefly. Welcome! I hope you will enjoy sipping a cup of tea while reading my blog from time to time, and that you'll write back to me when you have the chance. Together maybe we'll all understand this great wide world a little bit better.

There is so much I want to say in my first blog entry. For the time being, here's something I prepared earlier (some of you have already read this). Facing my fears was a big theme for my solo journey through south america, but really healthy... enjoy :)

Some of you may already know, but I just thought I'd write to let you all know that I'm back home now in Australia after about 10.5 months of backpacking through Asia, Europe, and mostly South America. It's a slower pace of life coming back home and entering the land of the 9-5 work routine, but for the moment, it's essential, having spent pretty much every cent to my name. But the experiences, the good, the fun, the difficult and utter crap, have made the financial outlay unquestionably worthwhile. Despite having been utterly (irrationaly) petrified many times on my often solo journey, I have far more wonderful memories, and I can say without question now that it pays to throw yourself in the deep end, try new things, and follow your heart, even if you're scared. This is what makes us grow and learn and understand ourselves and those around us that little bit more. And I think it makes life easier for everyone. I hope I will keep following my heart now that I'm home in the land of routine. Wish me luck, and good luck in doing the same. I'm living in Canberra now at least until February 2008. Love, hugs, kisses Clare mobile/cell: +61 (0)413 453 290

Besos y abrazos
